Shaq doubt the USA wins gold in LA Olympics

Shaquille O’Neal, the legendary NBA player and Olympic gold medalist, does not have have high expectations for the US team to defend its gold from from Paris and claim a sixth straight gold.

“20 years ago, the USA was light years ahead of the other countries. But that has changed. Europe has caught up and is only just behind. It will soon overtake the USA,” Shaq stated in a recent interview with Sport BIld.

Struggled in Paris

The US faced off against Serbia and Nikola Jokic in this years Olympics and won only after a spectacular fourtg quarter comeback, and a stellar performance by Steph Curry to win 95-91. The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, but without the ageeninng superstar trio of Curry, James and Durrant, Shaq thinks the US era of dominance might be be over:

“The European teams are really good: Croatia, Serbia, even Germany. You can win gold in 2028.”

The last time the Olympics were held in the US, Shaq was a member off the gold winning squad that dominated Yugoslavia and won by 95 to 69 in the finals.
